This is a senior role in the Sanctions team reporting to the Head of Sanctions and supporting the delivery of sanctions risk stewardship and advice across the company. The role's purpose is to provide risk stewardship oversight and advice in relation to the sanctions control framework for the company.

The role holder will advise on and provide risk management recommendations in relation to customers and transactions with a sanctions nexus, support Compliance and CMB/WPB line of business teams through the provision of sanctions advice and training, and provide advice and determination of controls designed to mitigate sanctions risk with respect to customer relationships, transactions, and products and lead and co-ordinate regulatory reporting for the company regards sanctions reporting,

Knowledge and experience:

A deep understanding of UK/EU/UN/US sanctions essentially

• Sanctions experience essential

• Experience in carrying out sectoral sanctions reviews and deep-dives

• Experience dealing with breaches and high-risk exposures

• Experience managing a team of advisors or lawyers

• Good understanding of business activities for a large global banking group with diverse operations from retail banking, wealth management, commercial banking, global banking, investments, transaction services, asset management, private banking, and insurance

• Good understanding of the FCA rules (e.g. Systems and Controls) and all other relevant legislation and guidance,

particularly in relation to the activities of the business lines supported

• Experience dealing with OFAC and understanding legislation

• Proven analytical skills, together with the ability to support decisions with sound reasoning

• Proven ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings both to Compliance Colleagues and Business Heads

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels

• Proven leadership experience with an open communication style

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
