We recently hosted our Dublin AI Meetup. The event brought together professionals from the technology and change sectors to explore the latest AI advancements and share real-world use cases, showcasing the practical implementation and business impact of AI across industries.
The session was moderated by Eric Booth, Technology Recruitment Lead at Nicoll Curtin, and featured two expert speakers.<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/lynsey-byrne-978075129/"> Lynsey Byrne</a>, RPA Manager at Bord G&aacute;is Energy, shared her experience leading intelligent automation initiatives within a major energy organisation. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamiehackett/">Jamie Hackett</a>, Specialist Solution Architect for AI at Red Hat, brought a technical perspective on the rise of agentic AI and the role of open source in enabling it.
It was great to see so many people at different stages of their AI journey engaging in the conversation, asking questions, and sharing their own experiences.&nbsp;

<h3>Beyond the Bot: Building Trust in AI-Driven Change</h3>
Lynsey Byrne explored how organisations can adopt AI with confidence and clarity. She addressed common concerns about job security, privacy, and accountability, encouraging teams to see AI as a supportive tool rather than a replacement. She posed a thought-provoking question: &ldquo;If you could add 10 people to your team, what work would you like them to do?&rdquo;
Byrne shared how her organisation introduced AI through small, high-impact automation pilots, delivering measurable time and cost savings. She highlighted the importance of transparency, workshops, and open communication in helping people understand the technology and building trust throughout the change process.
<h3>The Power of Open Source When It Comes to Agentic AI</h3>
Jamie Hackett discussed how open source is speeding up progress in agentic AI. He highlighted the main capabilities of these systems, such as tool use, multistep planning, reasoning, orchestration, and communication, and why building them is more challenging than it appears.
Hackett also introduced Llama Stack, a modular platform that standardises the Agent API layer, making it easier to build, scale, and deploy AI applications. He walked the attendees through how it connects to models, tools, and logs, and demonstrated how experts can develop agentic RAG systems, query vector databases, and interact with models directly through JupyterLab.

On Ada Lovelace Day, Women in Technology and Science (WITS) Ireland celebrated its 35th anniversary. It was a great event, marking <a href="https://witsireland.com/">WITS</a>&rsquo; passionate work inspiring public policy, academia, and industry, advancing women in STEM. The gathering set the stage for an evening of achievements, reflections, and stories that continue to inspire future generations.
It was held at the Museum of Literature in Dublin and hosted former WITS chairs, long-term supporters, volunteers, STEM students, professionals, journalists, as well as Ireland&rsquo;s Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee. The Museum turned into an exhibition space, as WITS' 35-year archive also launched the same evening with a special curation by Dr Jennifer Keenahan, Associate Professor at UCD and the deputy chair of WITS.

<h2>The exhibition to preserve WITS&rsquo; Legacy</h2>
The exhibition showcased key moments from WITS&rsquo; history &ndash; spanning advocacy, research, publications, and community initiatives.
Dr Keenahan explained that the project uncovered a wealth of significant work that risked being lost over time &ldquo;WITS has always been a voluntary organisation, and as roles passed from person to person over the years, materials such as agendas, minutes, photos, and memorabilia were stored in different places. The archive project is bringing these together to ensure they are preserved for future research and scholarship.&rdquo; After the exhibition, the material will be part of the UCD archives.
<h2>Inspiring the next generations of women in STEM and technology</h2>
WITS Chair, Jean O&rsquo;Donnell, welcomed the guests and, in her speech, reflected on the organisation&rsquo;s beginnings in 1990, founded by Mary Mulvihill, a pioneering scientist, broadcaster, and author. What started as a ten-year project has become a lasting movement, and today, the organisation continues to champion women and young learners pursuing STEM careers.
O&rsquo;Donnell spoke about the ongoing need for this mission, highlighting the importance of closing the &ldquo;dream gap&rdquo; via mentorship. &ldquo;Research shows that by age five, girls start believing they are less valuable, and by seven, they think boys are smarter. And by this point, they seriously doubt their abilities, which creates the dream gap,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;There&rsquo;s a lack of role models. You have to see it to be it, which is why mentoring is so important.&rdquo;
&rdquo;In 2025, every job is a STEM job&rdquo;, said O&rsquo;Donnell, highlighting that STEM now touches every part of the economy, with science and technology shaping nearly every career path. It was a powerful reminder that the initiative's work remains as relevant today as it was at its founding.
<h2>Collaboration that drives change in Ireland</h2>
Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee, commended the organisation&rsquo;s evolution from an advocacy group into an influential voice driving equity in the field. &ldquo;Women, who make up half of the population, must be front and centre in shaping Ireland&rsquo;s future through technology and innovation,&rdquo; she emphasised.
She talked about the importance of collaboration between government, industry, and organisations like WITS, sharing how initiatives such as the STEM Passport for Inclusion and the new national STEM curriculum are helping more girls engage with scientific subjects from an early age. &ldquo;We launched the first curriculum in 1999, focusing on STEM learning,&rdquo; Helen McEntee said. &ldquo;All of it is aimed at developing STEM literacy. It&rsquo;s not only about diversity but also about economic development and the future of the country.&rdquo;
The Minister of Education and Youth also spoke about the need for more inclusive leadership and stronger male allyship, addressing confidence, visibility, and skills gaps that continue to hold women back. Her message reinforced how progress in science, technology, engineering, and maths relies not only on access and education, but on collective responsibility and cultural change.

The session was led by WITS Executive Committee Member and Supplier Engineer, Klaudia Prys, and Janelle Molina, our Head of Performance and Sales - Singapore, shared her international technology and change recruitment expertise at the event. Molina talked about how AI is reshaping recruitment for both candidates and hiring managers, giving practical tips. &nbsp;
It was great to have many professionals working in STEM roles across Ireland, from early to mid-career stages, actively engaging in the discussion, sharing their insights, and experiences. The conversation touched on maintaining authenticity as a candidate when using AI tools, uncovering opportunities beyond traditional job boards, and striking the right balance between automation and the human touch in hiring.

<h3>1. What job seekers need to know</h3>
While platforms like ChatGPT or CV optimisers can be useful for fine-tuning applications or preparing for interviews, Janelle Molina reminded attendees not to let these tools do all the work. &ldquo;Recruiters can tell when something doesn&rsquo;t feel personal&rdquo;. Applications that lack authenticity often fail to stand out. Instead, focus on clearly presenting your achievements and sharing them with confidence.
This tied into a broader point Janelle raised about a common hesitation among candidates, particularly women, who often feel they need to meet every single job requirement before applying. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s okay not to tick every box,&rdquo; she said. Confidence isn&rsquo;t about meeting every requirement, but about backing your potential, attitude, and ability to grow.
She expanded on this by highlighting the qualities employers are currently prioritising. While technical skills remain crucial, she emphasised that soft skills, such as adaptability, communication, and problem-solving, are key to thriving in today&rsquo;s fast-changing workplaces. These attributes help people succeed once they&rsquo;re in the role, and they&rsquo;re not something AI can assess easily.
The conversation also touched on the <a href="https://www.nicollcurtin.com/blogs/unlocking-opportunities-in-the-hidden-job-market/">hidden job market</a>, where many technology jobs are shared through referrals or exclusive networks rather than being advertised publicly. Our Head of Marketing, Gulnaz Can, joined the conversation and offered guidance on how candidates can navigate this space effectively, encouraging them to stay visible in their networks, especially in communities like WITS, and to be proactive. <a href="https://www.nicollcurtin.com/consultants/">Reaching out to recruiters</a> who understand your sector or messaging hiring managers directly can also open up early conversations that lead to interviews.
<h3>2. What hiring managers should consider</h3>
Janelle Molina also spoke about the role of AI in recruitment processes. It&rsquo;s already streamlining many of the repetitive tasks, such as CV screening, interview scheduling, and even note-taking, but its purpose isn&rsquo;t to replace people. &ldquo;AI will free up recruiters to spend more time understanding what drives a candidate,&rdquo; she noted.&nbsp;
In an age where everything moves quickly, it's easy to lose the human touch. But simple actions like sending timely updates or making a follow-up call can make all the difference, especially for candidates navigating multiple interviews or offers. Janelle pointed out that a candidate&rsquo;s experience during the process often plays a big role in whether they accept the job.
Additionally, she emphasised that <a href="https://www.nicollcurtin.com/blogs/-upskilling-in-the-tech-sector/">upskilling</a> doesn&rsquo;t just apply to candidates. As AI tools evolve, so do expectations of leadership. Managers who stay curious and informed about new technologies and shifting workplace priorities are often the ones who can spot potential that others miss &ndash; and build more resilient teams as a result.

In November 2024, we hosted the Women in Tech Meetup in Dublin, bringing together industry professionals to discuss challenges and opportunities shaping the future of female talent in technology. The focus was on mentorship, overcoming barriers from the starting point to leadership roles, and promoting inclusivity in the sector. As Dublin continues to be a thriving innovation hub, empowering women within this space is more crucial than ever.

The event featured inspiring talks from Senior Solution Consultant, Kanchan Kumar, and Jean O&rsquo;Donnell, Chair of WITS Ireland (Women in Technology and Science).
Jean O'Donnell shared insights on the challenges and opportunities women face in technology careers. She stressed the importance of diverse representation in decision-making to ensure products cater to all communities. Additionally, Jean highlighted the lasting impact of early biases on girls and the crucial role of mentorship in retaining female talent, as 50% of them leave the field by age 35.
Kanchan Kumar emphasised the importance of personal branding in technology, urging women to identify their core &mdash; a combination of skills, passion, and relevance to their area of expertise. She pointed out that taking control of your career and finding your niche is crucial. Once you&rsquo;ve established it, dive deeper to fully understand it. Becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) involves staying informed about industry trends, attending events, hosting 'lunch &amp; learns,' sharing stories, and engaging in user groups to position yourself as a trusted expert in your field.
The gathering also reinforced the significance of networking for career success, fostering collaboration and building a strong community. The panel discussed further strategies for increasing female representation in the tech sector, such as <a href="https://www.nicollcurtin.com/blogs/blind-interviews-and-screening/">blind interviews</a>, mentorship schemes, and flexible work arrangements. Furthermore, men in tech were encouraged to be allies &mdash; advocating for inclusive practices and challenging biases to create better, more supportive work environments.

Working with a specialist 3rd party partner, we carried out our first Carbon Footprint Measurement. In this analysis, our annual carbon footprint is calculated in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO e). This measurement accounts for the emission of all seven greenhouse gases noted in the UNFCC Kyoto Protocol along with their relative global warming potential values (GWP), as recommended by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the UK Government Public Procurement Notice 06/21.
