Database Engineer

We seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join its network engineering function on a 12‑month contract basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, build, and operation of large‑scale optical and IP networks.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale global DWDM optical networks
• Develop and maintain processes for optical network operations
• Drive initiatives to improve network quality, resilience, and performance
• Evaluate new technologies and support commercial tender processes
• Ensure compliance with optical networking standards
• Review, plan, and implement changes across optical systems
• Provide advanced network analysis and troubleshooting support

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in Optical Network Operations or Support
• Proven experience delivering and operating large DWDM network rollouts
• Strong knowledge of optical planning and modelling tools
• Hands‑on experience with DWDM platforms including Ciena, Infinera, and Cisco
• Experience with Cisco and Juniper routing platforms
• Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals and protocols
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

Technical Excellence

• Expert, hands‑on experience with ASP.NET Core, WebAPI, C#, Entity Framework
• Strong cloud experience, preferably Microsoft Azure
• Proven delivery of microservices and distributed systems at scale
• Experience with Kubernetes, Kafka, and containerised workloads
• Working knowledge of MongoDB and cloud integration patterns
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
• Front‑end literacy with JavaScript / TypeScript
• Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, resilience, and performance
• Practical experience applying generative AI tools responsibly within engineering workflows

• Experience operating at Senior / Principal Engineer level

• Proven experience developing and deploying Batch and CICS applications
• Solid understanding of mainframe tooling such as ENDEVOR, FILE‑AID, ABEND‑AID, and CONTROL‑M
• Experience working in an agile / scrum environment
• Demonstrated track record of successful product delivery

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a data analysis and visualization reporting platform for equity research teams
• Write and maintain Linux-based scripts to parse, store, manipulate, and visualize financial data
• Take ownership of a complex legacy codebase, ensuring accuracy, stability, and continuity of outputs
• Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting and visualization requirements
• Incrementally modernize the platform, improving CI/CD, deployment workflows, monitoring, and code quality
• Learn and assume ownership of existing reporting solutions without disrupting trusted outputs

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience in software development or data engineering
• Strong Linux proficiency, including networking, processes, filesystem, cron, and systemctl
• Strong shell scripting experience (bash, ksh, zsh)
• Professional experience with Perl, Python, or similar scripting languages in production
• Solid understanding of data analysis, statistical concepts, and data tooling
• Strong SQL skills, including relational schema design and performance optimization

• Experience modernizing legacy scripting or reporting platforms
