A U.S.-based financial institution is seeking a Head of Information Technology to lead its technology function during a critical transition period. This role requires a hands-on technology leader who can both set direction and actively build solutions to modernize systems, eliminate manual processes, and introduce automation across the organization.
This is not a purely managerial role—success requires deep technical expertise and a willingness to “roll up your sleeves.”
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a small IT team (3–4 direct reports) while remaining actively involved in technical execution
- Design, build, and implement scalable technology solutions to replace manual and paper-based processes
- Oversee infrastructure, applications, and security to ensure reliability and performance across U.S. operations
- Troubleshoot complex issues independently and drive root-cause resolution
- Introduce automation, analytics, and (where appropriate) AI-driven tools to improve efficiency
- Establish proactive monitoring and early warning systems to prevent downtime or failures
- Partner with executive leadership to align technology initiatives with business priorities
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, audit, and security standards
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience building and deploying technology solutions hands-on (not just managing projects)
- Strong background in software development or systems engineering (highly preferred)
- Experience working within financial services or similarly regulated environments
- Deep knowledge of enterprise systems and infrastructure, including:
- Oracle, IBM AIX, IBM Client Access
- Microsoft Windows Server environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to operate as a doer-manager hybrid—leading while actively executing
Preferred
- Experience implementing automation, analytics, or AI tools
- Experience modernizing legacy systems or digitizing manual workflows
