A U.S.-based financial institution is seeking a Head of Information Technology to lead its technology function during a critical transition period. This role requires a hands-on technology leader who can both set direction and actively build solutions to modernize systems, eliminate manual processes, and introduce automation across the organization.

This is not a purely managerial role—success requires deep technical expertise and a willingness to “roll up your sleeves.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a small IT team (3–4 direct reports) while remaining actively involved in technical execution
  • Design, build, and implement scalable technology solutions to replace manual and paper-based processes
  • Oversee infrastructure, applications, and security to ensure reliability and performance across U.S. operations
  • Troubleshoot complex issues independently and drive root-cause resolution
  • Introduce automation, analytics, and (where appropriate) AI-driven tools to improve efficiency
  • Establish proactive monitoring and early warning systems to prevent downtime or failures
  • Partner with executive leadership to align technology initiatives with business priorities
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, audit, and security standards

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience building and deploying technology solutions hands-on (not just managing projects)
  • Strong background in software development or systems engineering (highly preferred)
  • Experience working within financial services or similarly regulated environments
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise systems and infrastructure, including:
    • Oracle, IBM AIX, IBM Client Access
    • Microsoft Windows Server environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to operate as a doer-manager hybrid—leading while actively executing

Preferred

  • Experience implementing automation, analytics, or AI tools
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or digitizing manual workflows

Additional Details

  • Reports to senior executive leadership (COO structure)
  • Interview process: 2–3 rounds (virtual + in-person)
  • Role supports U.S. operations with collaboration from a global IT function
