Systems Engineer (Database Security)

Day rate contract - Hybrid (3 weeks remote, 1 full week onsite)

 

My client is seeking a Systems Engineer to join its Data Protection & Analytics team within the Cyber Security function. This team is responsible for monitoring and securing activity across critical database platforms. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining database monitoring solutions across a global environment.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL, Cassandra, cloud-managed databases)
  • Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices
  • Experience with database security tools (e.g. IBM Guardium or similar) is an advantage
  • Background in systems engineering, administration, or software engineering with strong troubleshooting skills
  • Experience implementing and managing security controls across systems and networks
  • Scripting knowledge (e.g. Python, Perl) preferred
  • Exposure to DevOps, automation, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins) beneficial
  • Cloud experience (AWS or Azure) is a plus
  • Strong Linux and Windows support knowledge
  • Understanding of security and compliance standards (e.g. GDPR, ISO 27001, PCI)

  • Experience leading and developing technical teams.
  • Experience delivering large-scale, cloud-native applications within AWS environments.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Proven experience implementing Secure SDLC across engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of DevSecOps principles and security-focused software delivery.
  • Experience working with application security tooling, including:
    • SAST (Static Application Security Testing)
    • DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing)
    • SCA (Software Composition Analysis)
    • Secrets Management
    • Secrets Scanning
  • Experience improving engineering practices through automation, testing and CI/CD.
  • Ability to define technical roadmaps and deliver against strategic objectives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence engineering and business leaders.
  • Data-driven approach, using analytics and engineering metrics to guide technical decisions.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with modern Application Security tooling such as Checkmarx, Veracode, Fortify, SonarQube, Snyk or similar.
  • Background working within enterprise-scale engineering environments.
  • Experience leading security transformation or DevSecOps adoption initiatives.
